Ixchel is the Maya Goddess of the Moon, Water, Weaving and Childbirth, her name means "Lady Rainbow"and is a powerful and feminine symbol of immortality. Isla Mujeres is devoted to the worship of Ixchel and she was honored as the weaver of the life cycle, and the guardian of the island, protecting the fertility of women and keeping of the souls of the dead. There are 4 major rituals associated to each moon phase to honor Ixchel goddess.
