Just returned from Fantasy Island this past
weekend. I thought it was great. The staff were very customer focused
(especially front desk and waiters). After reading all the horror
stories about the sand flies, I was well prepared (100% Deet, long
sleve shirts and trousers, benadril cream, etc.).
Turns out that I had one mosquito bite and that was it. I did spread
that cactus cream on my arms and legs every day. I asked Sharon (one of
the Managers) about the bugs and she said that the wind keeps them
away. I wore short sleeves, shorts and sandals the entire week. The
diving was excellent. Our only mishap was that our boat (little dan)
had an engine problem and so we all had to swim to another boat. As we
missed that dive, it was made up with an extra dive on the Friday. The
best dive was Mary's place and 40 foot (lots of fish !!!).
We also got a real treat when a couple of dolphins followed our boat
and jumped out of the water. We also got to see a pair of dolphins
close up at about 60 feet. Our DM was Nelson and Esteban. They are lots
of fun and know how to make sure divers enjoy themselves. The weather
was hot, with a constant breeze at night. Unfortunetely, my a/c went
out at midnight one night, but was able to sleep with the ceiling fan
on high.
The staff repared the a/c the next day. The food was yummy (great
desserts, good meats, lots of veggies and great Honduran coffee). Be
careful with the monkeys !! They are very cute, but will try to steal
your food (especially desserts and drinks) if you have meals on the
balcony.
Lastly, a side trip (snokling with the Dolphins) is well worth it. I
would deffinetly return and would recomment Fantasy Island as a very
good value resort. Also, be careful with the fire coral and jelly fish.
I still have a nice red welt on my arm.
